
In honor of Veterans Day, we are thanking Eugene "Butch" Oberlander, U.S. Army Veteran, for his service!
Eugene “Butch” Oberlander is a physical education teacher at Armstrong Middle School, and this year, he was inducted into Bristol Township’s Athletic Hall of Fame for track and field, and cross country.
After graduating from Truman High School in 1984, Mr. Oberlander served in the U.S. Army on active duty from 1985-1988 and was stationed in Fort Carson, Colorado. His helicopter unit was sent to Honduras and assigned to help train Honduran soldiers during the Honduran Nicaraguan conflict in 1988.
Mr. Oberlander was an Army reservist from 1988-1993. His reserve unit was called to active duty to serve in Operation Desert Storm 1990 to 1991. His helicopter unit was assigned to medevac missions and saw the heaviest action during the 4-day ground war in Kuwait.
He received an honorable discharge at the rank of Sergeant after completing his 8-year commitment.
