Two Harry S. Truman High School students, Khalil King and Nehal Palan, told their stories at the 11th annual MLK Peace and Social Justice Summit. Held on January 15 at William Tennent High School, the Summit was a way for students in Bucks and Montgomery County school districts to have meaningful conversations about race, discrimination and intolerance in honor of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Day.

“It was inspiring to watch Khalil and Nehal stand in front of all the other students and talk about their experiences,” said Assistant Superintendent Chris Polzer.

Sponsored by The Peace Center, the Summit focused on the topic “Finding Common Ground.” It was an opportunity for students and adults to discuss strategies to keep the peace and promote social justice. Trey Carlisle of Music in Common gave a keynote speech, and musician and educator Stephen J. Tyson Jr. (aka Ellect) served as the emcee.
