On Friday, April 12, 2024, the Harry S. Truman High School dedicated its library to Carl Grecco, the late legendary debate coach and teacher at Truman. The dedication ceremony was followed by a benefit dinner, supporting Truman Speech and Debate.

For 54 years Grecco served Bristol Township School District students as a social studies teacher and the Truman Speech and Debate coach. Grecco was an integral part of the team, being an active member of the coaching team until he passed in 2016. Grecco served more than just the Bristol Township community, as he had a substantial role in expanding speech and debate programs in Pennsylvania, being recognized nationally as an award-winning coach.

“He was the type of person who would do anything for students, and often would pay for students’ competition clothes, tournament fees, and other necessary purchases out of his own pocket, ensuring that no student ever had to take on a financial burden in order to participate on the team,” said Assistant Coach and social studies teacher Olivia Wright.

The dedication ceremony included the unveiling of the new dedication sign and stories of Grecco’s impact on students. Opening remarks for the ceremony were given by Assistant Superintendent Chris Polzer, followed by the remarks in Grecco’s memory by his son Matt Grecco and program alumni Stephen Hauber. Kathleen Olsen, senior and President of the Speech and Debate Team, spoke about Grecco’s impact and legacy. Assistant Coach Olivia Wright presented the statement of dedication and Head Coach Justin Thomashefsky gave the closing remarks.

“We wanted to dedicate the library in Carl’s honor, as he was a lifelong learner, a voracious reader, and promoted the pursuit of knowledge through his work and dedication to students,” said Wright.

After the dedication ceremony was a benefit dinner to support Truman Speech and Debate. The dinner and fundraising campaign raised over $1,500 for the team's non-profit. This money will help send the team to national tournaments this year in Chicago, Ill., and Des Moines, Iowa.

The impact of Grecco will live on proudly through the team and is memorialized for future generations of learners within the dedication of the library.
