Since its start in 2019, The Aggie Sassani Memorial Scholarship Fund has raised almost $3,000 for special education students to attend post-secondary schools. Every year the Truman Special Education Department nominates two students to receive a scholarship, rewarding eight students to date.

After beloved special education teacher Agatha “Aggie” Sassani passed away in 2019, Truman teachers wanted her memory to live on in Bristol Township School District. Teachers Victoria Tangradi and Colleen Spinelli started The Aggie Sassani Memorial Scholarship Fund in her memory, with her family’s blessing.

“Aggie was such a staple in both the community and the school district and brought a ray of sunshine to anyone she came across,” said Tangradi.

Sassani spent her teaching career as an early education and special education teacher in BTSD, teaching at John Fitch Elementary, FDR Middle School and Truman High School. Additionally, she was the coordinator of the Bristol Township Summer Recreation Program and was a head counselor at Camp Discovery.

There is a bench in Falls Township Park in memorial of Sassani and her husband, Michael. Teacher Jim Cristea helped Tangradi and Spinelli purchase the plaques on the bench, which were funded through donations.

“Aggie left a Tiger paw print on all of our hearts,” said Tangradi. “We are so happy to be able to honor her memory in this way.”

Donations from the fund come from BTSD staff, Aggie’s family members and the community. To donate to the scholarship fund for the 2022-2023 school year, please send a check to Truman High School, 3001 Green Lane, Levittown, payable to “The Aggie Sassani Memorial Scholarship Fund.”
